new beginning is aptly titled because its the first time for wordsworth and donel smokes to collaborate on an entire project. the outcome is bliss, from wordsworth’s graphic, storytelling style, accompanied by the scenic sounds of donel smokes, you get pure, no filter hip-hop music. with songs like f.u.(fingers up) featuring blu, or another day featuring masta ace, or do good featuring chali 2na, you get perspective of life, social issues, and ways to rejoice through it all. songs like hate and test of test will definitely spark discussion of reflection, while believe will give you a sense of optimism. this album is a great listen from new beginning to end.

rezzett are arguably one of the trilogy tapes goto acts. the london duo has previously released a trio of impressive, off-kilter eps of fuzzy house and techno jams for will bankheads much-loved imprint. happily, zik zak is every bit as essential as their previous material, expertly blurring the boundaries between techno, experimental electronics, and distorted hardcore. while the drowsy-but-sweaty hey hugo all sampled vocal yelps, sweeping chords and clattering percussion is probably the most obviously ear-catching of the four cuts, theres plenty to get excited about elsewhere. check, for example, the intricate electronics and eyes-closed loveliness of the title track, and the fluid melodiousness of opener afyon or, for that matter, the comforting bliss of ep closer noklue.

little is known about the london-based producer and dj who goes by the name of u, but that hasnt quelled praise from bedroom heads, industry tastemakers and big name press alike. audio arbiter george fitzgerald originally met u on a holiday in greece and immediately commissioned a handful of 12inches, each brimming with trademark mechanical bliss, like pleasure tinged with menace. u has since gone on to release for erol alkans phantasy sounds (both as a solo artist and in collaboration with babe, terror as btu), being given the nod by the guardian, mixmag and the line of best fit.

’javiera gonzález, the as yet unknown talent in the western world hailing from the underground bliss of her hometown santiago de chile, presents her debut ep -meet me twice-. javiera’s vocal stylings are at once haunting and irresistibly creating a mood that inspires views of far away places, abandoned and alone, yet somehow bathed in hope. her talent for vocal improvisation paired with the funk-infused analog electronics by tobias freund and mario jarpa s organ interact perfectly on this 6 track release.’
